The State Senate seat for the 24th
district belongs to all of us, the residents of this district, this
community. Republican or Democrat. Independent or Undeclared. Liberal
or Libertarian. Conservative or Conservationist. The issues that affect
our nation, our state, and our lives are more important than these divisions.
Health
care, property taxes, development, insurance costs, transportation. On
practically all these issues, our typical cookie-cutter politicians are
failing to address them in a meaningful and honest way. Instead of listening
and responding thoughtfully to our needs, they concoct a formula of what
they think we want to hear...and repeat it over and over...for one reason
and one reason alone: to get our votes.
I
think it's time for change in northwestern New Jersey. And northwestern
New Jersey is a changing place. We need new ideas, new passion and a renewed
willingness to listen and respond to the people that live here. The era
of the Politician is over.
This
is why I am running. You may be far more liberal or far more conservative
than me. You may agree with me on very few things, on almost everything,
or maybe on absolutely nothing. But you will, I guarantee, always have
access, an advocate, a voice. Every politician will tell you he or she
is going to win...at times it almost seems comical. I won't tell you this,
because this decision is yours to make, not mine. I can only tell you
who I am and be as open and honest as possible. This simple recipe seems
to have been lost on most politicians.
I
want to go to Trenton to be YOUR voice, not mine. Year after year, we
are never given a choice in this district. This time it's different. This
year, the result is no forgone conclusion. This year, your vote truly
matters. If you give me your vote, I will not let you down. Let's make
it happen.

Why
is it that politicians will say anything to get elected, but once
elected will do or say NOTHING that is the slightest bit risky?
Candid, substantive communication from candidates regarding issues
and positions is essential during the time of an election. Incumbents
or candidates are obligated to communicate their positions to groups
like NCADD, a group that disseminates information regarding candidate
positions on the issues to the public. |

The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug
Dependence, Inc. (NCADD-New Jersey)
provides education, information, help and hope to the public.
Take
a look at this
letter from Sen. Littell to NCADD-NJ |

|
The letter above is an example of State Senator Littel's policy
to decline to comment during an election period. This arrogance
is all too typical among politicians. It's not enough to provide
a pro forma statement that essentially conveys: "I won't risk
offending you with what I ACTUALLY think, but I WILL tell you that
I fully support what you and your organization supports, and, rest
assured, I will continue to do so in future if elected."
If one-size-fits all messaging weren't so rampant in politics, standing
behind non-positions and making evasiveness a campaign policy
would be considered absurd.
These days, honest, thoughtful and uncensored dialogue is sadly
uncommon in politics. Politicians refuse to risk losing the votes
of people who disagree with them. I will not play this cynical game.
I would sooner vote for an honest, candid candidate with whom I
disagreed than vote for one who avoids issues and panders to the
audience with pro-forma policy to get elected. Wouldn't
you? |
